Say What You Want About This New Apparel Line... Literally.
Dallas, Texas- A Dallas filmmaker has released a new apparel line designed to challenge your opinion on the First Amendment.
The controversial brand, Versus Opinion, was started in January 2021 in the wake of the American insurrection attempt, causing the subsequent Twitter ban and impeachment of former President Donald Trump for alleged incitement. However, instead of further polarizing Americans in an already tense political climate surrounding who can say what, the aim of the company is to unify those with opposing opinions.
“People far too often wish to silence others that do not share the same views. However, uncomfortable discussions can often lead to open minds; that is why I started this company,” owner Kurtz Frausun said.
Most designs in the online store are striking visual references to controversial, precedent-setting court cases regarding the First Amendment. These cases include Miller v. California and Texas v. Johnson, which redefined the definition of obscene material and burning an American flag is protected respectively. The simple, thought-provoking designs will launch conversations about the importance of free speech and the lack of censorship that is enjoyed in the United States.
“You can choose to not read a book, watch a film or listen to a speech. But that doesn’t mean you should be able to tell someone else they cannot,” Frausun said. “With my products, I want people to realize that it was the controversial cases that opened the door to expanding our rights of free speech.”
The designs are available to be purchased on hoodies, jackets, t-shirts, tank tops, quarter sleeve and long sleeve shirts, hats, backpacks, phone cases, stickers, coffee mugs and face masks. Prices range from $3.50 for stickers to $49 for zip- up hoodies.
